Nearly 200 personalities call for the end of intensive farming

https://www.en24.news/fr/2019/09/nearly-200-personalities-call-for-the-end-of-intensive-farming.html

Isabelle Adjani, Pierre Niney and 180 other personalities, researchers or citizens, point to the "immobilism" of elected officials, or even their "active support to the intensive livestock lobby".

They demand an "agricultural and food transition". Nearly 200 personalities or associations call on the public authorities to put an end to intensive and industrial breeding. A system that destroys biodiversity, ignores animal suffering and creates "social and economic imbalances," according to these signatories.

We citizens, citizens, organizations, aware of the ethical, environmental, health and social issues, no longer want intensive and industrial breeding that confines animals in closed buildings, in cages, in concrete ponds, forcing them to live in extreme conditions of promiscuity.

We do not want any more intensive farms that are not respectful of the environment, highly emitting greenhouse gases, producing green algae and acid rain.

We do not want any more intensive breeders destroying biodiversity, actors of deforestation.

We no longer want this system, supported by public money, an enemy of the general interest. A system that imposes harsh, alienating and risky working conditions, where farmers commit more suicide than in any other socio-professional category.

We no longer want intensive breeding that promotes antimicrobial resistance and the emergence of new extremely dangerous pathogens.

We no longer want a speculative system that creates social and economic imbalances in many parts of the world.

We no longer want a strongly meaty and milky diet that underlies these production methods and endangers our health.

Elected politicians, we can no longer, at your best, at worst – and more often – your active support to the intensive livestock lobby.

The ethical, climatic, environmental, sanitary and social urgency makes it necessary to engage our country in an agricultural and food transition: we must quickly move towards an essentially vegetable consumption, sustainable, healthy, respectful of the environment, animals and humans.

Today we want action, strong and concrete measures to break the deadlock. We require that :

• an immediate moratorium on intensive farming and the prohibition of new constructions intended to raise animals without access to the outdoors;
• a concrete plan to get out of intensive farming, with the support of people who depend on it today for alternative production;
• a large-scale revegetation of public or private catering.

Elected, political leaders, will you be at the rendezvous?
