The international community has high expectation from the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the business opportunities it presents, as the 100-day countdown of the event begins.
"CIIE will bring a very strong exposure to our company, by having high-level government officials, influential trade professionals, including lots of existing and potential customers, and hopefully also the general public which can bring us recruiting opportunities," Laurent Castella, Head of Marketing Region Asia, GF Machining Solutions, said in Shanghai on Thursday.
Founded by Gorge Fisher in 1820, during the first industrial revolution, the Swiss company GF is an industrial leader in three main areas: the safe transport of liquids and gases, lightweight casting components in vehicles, and high-precision manufacturing technologies.
With rapid technological development, especially digitalization transformation, also called IOT or industrial 4.0, the game will change. The machines will talk to machines and the data collected from the machines will move to the clouds. Artificial intelligence will look at the data and make decisions that human cannot make.
GF is also behind this digital transformation, creating a new manufacturing world for tomorrow and the company is working with key universities in the world to develop more intelligent products and more intelligent process and it will bring all these leading technologies into China, Castella said.
Leader of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a traditional German automobile parts manufacturing enterprise, also considers CIIE an excellent opportunity to enhance technical exchange with its Chinese counterparts.
"ZF is a strong supporter to the Chinese automobile industry. As an active player in both Chinese and global auto industries, ZF is pleased to take part in CIIE, which is an important means for the sustained opening-up of Chinese economy, and a great opportunity for global enterprises to enhance technical exchange and business operation here," said Andreas Weller, president of ZF Friedrichshafen AG's Asia-Pacific.
The company has a clear vision called "Vision Zero" - all ZF's products and solutions contribute to the achievement of a world without accidents and emissions and it will remain committed to the research and development activities on smart mobility, automated driving, e-mobility and connected vehicles, Weller said.
When these companies see China's determination to reform and opening of Chinese market, they will change their plans, Liang said. The CIIE has attracted many technological companies who play a leading role in their specific areas to showcase their advanced technologies but some cutting-edge technological companies remain reluctant to sell their products due to the restrain of their government, said Liang Feng, president of China National Machine Tool Corp, which is the only company in charge of inviting international companies and purchasing their products.
"China has attached great importance to intellectual property right protection and all the regulations are made according to international rules, especially after China's entry into the WTO. The international companies can rest assured their patents will be protected in China," Liang said.
A one-stop service will also be provided for all the exhibitors to protect their intellectual property rights at the first CIIE in Shanghai in November, according to the organizer of the event.
In addition to smart tech machinery and automobile industries, food and agricultural industry giants from the global have also expressed their expectation.
"We are looking forward to CIIE this fall when we will showcase many of our products. We will display some innovative products such as chocolates and coco," said Robert Aspell, president of Cargill Asia-Pacific.
The US-based company, which first invested in China in the early 1970s, will work in stronger alignment with strategic interests of China, by focusing on food security and food safety and remains committed to grow Chinese market, according to Aspell.
Jean-Philippe Poulin, president of Lesaffre Greater China, a global leader in yeast and fermentation also showed great interest in investing in China.
"We expect during the exhibition to demonstrate that we could invest in China and we will try to convince other big companies to invest with us to create an innovative platform in China," Poulin said.
In fact, creating partnership with different suppliers, experts and different technologies will help to increase and improve the practices in China and probably bring new products dedicate to the Chinese markets, Poulin added.
The latest statistics from the organizer indicate over 2,800 companies from 130 countries and regions have confirmed participation of the first China International Import Expo.
The event will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from November 5 to 10.

Xi Jingpin was speaking at the 10th Brics Summit currently underway at the Sandton Convetion Centre in Johannesburg.Chinese President Xi Jingpin has announced that China will host the first ever China International Import Expo in November.
Xi Jingpin was speaking at the 10th BRICS Summit currently under way at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
“China will host the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai this November, in a major support of trade liberalisation and to open its market. The Expo will serve as a new platform to the world to access the Chinese market,” says Jingpin.
Jingpin says more than 130 countries and regions and more than 2800 companies have confirmed participation.
“And over 150 000 buyers in and outside China are expected to attend this fare. I welcome business leaders from other BRICS and African countries to attend the expo,” said Jingpin to a rousing applause.
The Chinese President took to the podium after the BRICS Chair Cyril Ramaphosa’s speech in which he sang praises of, among other things, intra-BRICS cooperation over the last decade.
“Intra-BRICS cooperation has been gaining momentum in areas such as finance, agriculture, trade, combating transnational crime, science and technology, health, education, security and academic dialogue,” says Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa, however, lamented some of the challenges faced by the multilateral trading system.
“We are concerned by the rise in unilateral measures that are incompatible with World Trade Organization rules and are worried about the impact of these measures, especially on developing countries. These developments call for thorough discussion on the role of trade in promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth.”

SHANGHAI, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Not many people would eat ice cream in the middle of winter, but Russian dairy producers who plan to showcase their ice creams at China's first import expo this November are hoping for more than just sales.
Major Russian producers are seeking long-term partnerships in China by participating in the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai this November, according to Li Shuo, an official with the China International Import Expo Bureau, in charge of liaison with Russian exhibitors.
A wealth of products and technologies from countries along the Belt and Road, including Russia, are expected to appear at CIIE, which will give new impetus to the Belt and Road economic cooperation by helping companies promote brands and expand markets.
The expo will serve as a new platform for the world to access the Chinese market as well as a way to support trade liberalization.
Over 130 countries and regions and more than 2,800 companies have confirmed participation in the expo. Over 150,000 domestic and international buyers are expected to attend the fair.
Most countries along the Belt and Road have confirmed they will participate in the expo, according to Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau.
The CIIE will create new areas of growth for Sino-Russian trade and investment cooperation, said Alexey Gruzdev, Russia's deputy minister of economic development.
Apart from ice cream, Russia also looks to expand its markets for tourism and high-quality services.
Russia is "in active preparation to encourage representative enterprises, technologies and services, building the 'Made in Russia' brand via the CIIE," Gruzdev said in an interview.
Pakistan's Federal Secretary for Commerce Mohammad Younus Dagha expects Pakistan to use CIIE to promote high-quality products in the Chinese market.
"We have great expectations for this historic opportunity with the continuous advancement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor," he said.
Many well-known companies along the Belt and Road, including a French healthcare provider and an Israeli medical technology firm, will attend the expo and showcase their high-end products and cutting-edge technology via the Fosun International Limited's platform, according to the Chinese company.
France-based Lesaffre, a global leader in yeast production, has already signed up for the second CIIE.
The expo in China appeals to many countries along the Belt and Road due to the country's robust economy as well as having the world's largest middle-income group.
China's GDP logged a 6.7-percent growth in the second quarter of this year, with the pace of expansion staying within the range of 6.7 to 6.9 percent for 12 straight quarters. Final consumption contributed to 78.5 percent of the economic expansion in the first half of the year.
"The expo in China isn't focused on export but on import, to fulfill the country's upgrading consumption market, which means a huge opportunity for other parts of the world," said Paul Woodward, former managing director of UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry.
CIIE is expected to add fuel to the already fast growth of trade between China and countries along the Belt and Road.
In the first five months of the year, trade with these countries surged 11.1 percent year on year, outpacing overall trade growth by 2.3 percentage points, Ministry of Commerce data showed.
The growth potential is huge, and Chinese buyers are itching to secure contracts with countries along the Belt and Road as CIIE nears the 100-day countdown to its opening.
The Shanghai-based Greenland Group plans to purchase 100 million U.S. dollars worth of goods from Turkey and cooperate with Polish authorities to import local goods from Poland.
"We already have 1,162 product categories from 16 countries and regions along the Belt and Road on sale at our stores, accounting for 15 percent of all categories. Many of them are very popular among Chinese consumers," said Jin Lu, deputy director of global sourcing at the retail sales department of Greenland Business Group.
As the majority of trade between China and countries along the Belt and Road is primarily with nations in Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Western Europe, there is considerable room for trade growth with other areas, according to Sun.
He also expects a more diverse trade structure, with more imports other than resources and raw materials from countries along the Belt and Road and larger-scale service trade.
